Cubitt is building on Islington’s history of radical publishing with plans to create a community press: a space to share stories, document alternative histories, and support social justice projects. We believe in owning the tools of creation and making things happen in and for our communities.

In February 2025, we published our first ever community newspaper! This spring we are gathering again to think about a second edition, launching in summer 2025.

Join Us for Community Printing Sessions – July 2025

We’re teaming up with our friends at Artbox London to print the second edition of our community newspaper, designed and edited by our brilliant press group!

Over two hands-on sessions in July, we’ll be printing the newspaper together using a risograph printer, getting everything ready for distribution at the Cubitt Community Zine + Publishing Fair on Saturday 2nd August 2025.

These sessions are a great chance to:

– Learn the basics of community printing

– Get to know a risograph printer and do some hands on printing

– Find out more about independent community publishing

– Connect with our growing community press

No experience needed, and nothing to prepare, just come along (but make sure to book your ticket(s) below)! You can book to attend just one or both sessions, just make sure you get the correct ticket(s).

Places are free but limited, so please only book if you’re sure you can make it.

📅 Session 1: Wednesday 9 July 2025, 5:30–8:30 PM

📅 Session 2: Sunday 13 July 2025, 12:00–3:00 PM

🥪 Snacks and food will be provided.

WHO CAN ATTEND/ WHO IS AN ISLINGTON LOCAL?

We welcome everyone who is currently living, working and organising in Islington (and it’s neighbouring areas). However, we also know that many folks who have historically grown up  in the area have had to move due to gentrification and the changes to neighbourhoods, so if you have a close relationship with the borough, local knowledge, generational ties to this community, you’re very welcome to join us!

We’re keen for this to be a local project, so we’re especially interested in hearing from people with a connection to the Islington area. That said, if you're from other boroughs or neighbourhoods—and feel this work resonates with you—you’re very welcome to join too!

WHAT IS RISOGRAPH?

A riso machine creates vibrant, stencil-based prints that are perfect for mass-producing posters, flyers, and pamphlets. Blending elements of silkscreen and photocopying, Riso prints have a unique look, popular in schools and activist groups!

If you have any questions, suggestions on who to invite or would like to share your relationship to the borough, please get in touch by emailing: [email protected]
