Green Sub-Committee

Cubitt’s Green Sub-Committee was established in 2022 to try and address the ways in which we as an organisation can think through and implement strategies to become more environmentally conscious in the work we do.

The Sub-Committee meets quarterly and comprises members across both the Studio Co-op and Public Programme’s teams.

Some of the initiatives collectively devised by the Green Sub-Committee include:

  • Rethinking our small green space outside the front of our building as a potential community garden. The garden will be developed by members of our Studio Co-op and Programmes team into a multi-sensory resource that can be used by local people, and within our community arts programming. We hope the garden will enable local residents to continue to build ownership of Cubitt as a space, to empower them to engage with and cultivate plants with therapeutic and nutritional qualities, and connect to the environment around us.

  • Rethinking the way we use materials in our work through the creation of an inventory for intra-Cubitt resource exchange and recycling of materials.

  • Community clothes-swapping events.

  • Ongoing infrastructure projects, including the updating of old inefficient heating and lighting systems across our building

  • A commitment to only using environmentally sustainable cleaning supplies and toiletries within our building.
