Join us for a riso printing workshop with Cubitt resident Aliaskar Abarkas to make and print what he calls musical spells, referring to a communal scoring process that captures the ephemeral nature of collective music-making.

Inspired by ancient and medieval spell-writing traditions, this alternative method of scoring blends geometry, symbols, and elements derived from the artist’s research into ancient languages, phonetic structures, archaic pictographs, and esoteric modes of communication. These symbols have evolved and deepened through a series of workshops with the artist and participants—and they continue to develop further.

This riso printmaking workshop will be held in collaboration with Cubitt Civic Fellow, Anahi Saravia. During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to explore and assemble symbols from the musical spells to create their own visual compositions.

Everyone is welcome to join the workshop!
