ARE YOU AN ISLINGTON LOCAL? Do you want to be part of a community print space in Islington?  We’d love to meet you!

Cubitt is building on Islington’s long history of radical publishing, and we’re excited to share that we now have our very own Risograph printer! With it, we’re re-opening the Cubitt Community Press: a space to share local stories, document alternative histories, and support projects in our borough and beyond rooted in social justice.

We believe in owning the tools of creation and using them to make things happen in and for our communities.

In our final few months in our current site, we’re re-opening the community press and working towards our third iteration of our community newsletter: reflection on gentrification, community resources and what’s happening in our borough.

Cubitt Community Press Issue #2

Over 4 hands-on sessions in February and March, we’ll be making and printing the newspaper together in house at Cubitt.

These sessions are a great chance to:

  • Get to know a risograph printer and do some hands on printing

  • Find out more about independent community publishing

  • Connect with our growing community press and community projects working in print!

No experience needed, and nothing to prepare, just come along! You can book to attend just one or all sessions, just make sure you get the correct ticket(s).

📅 Session 1: Saturday 7th February 2026, 2- 4 PM

📅 Session 2: Saturday 21st February 2026, 2-4 PM

📅 Session 3: Saturday 7th March 2026, 2-4 PM

📅 Session 4: Saturday 21st March 2026, 2-4 PM

🥪 Snacks will be provided.

We’re moving towards opening a Community Distribution Centre: a space to amplify stories from our borough across London (and beyond). In the coming years, we’ll be working through print and radio to support local organising, creative resistance, and collective storytelling as tools for social justice and radical imagination.

WHO CAN ATTEND/ WHO IS AN ISLINGTON LOCAL?

We welcome everyone who is currently living, working and organising in Islington (and its neighbouring areas). We know that many folks who have grown up  in the area have had to move due to gentrification and changes to our neighbourhood, so if you have a close relationship with the borough, local knowledge, generational ties to this community, you’re very welcome to join us!  If you’re from surrounding areas/boroughs/neighbourhoods and feel connected to this project- you are also welcome!

WHAT IS RISOGRAPH?

A risograph machine creates vibrant, stencil-based prints that are perfect for mass-producing posters, flyers, and pamphlets. Blending elements of silkscreen and photocopying, Riso prints have a unique look, popular in schools and activist groups!

If you have any questions, suggestions on who to invite or would like to share your relationship to the borough, please get in touch by emailing: [email protected] & [email protected]
