Listen back to Marlene Smith in-conversation with Cubitt Curatorial Fellow, Seán Elder within the context of ‘Ah, Sugar’ Smith’s solo exhibition.

This event was named after a talk held at Grand Union, Birmingham six years ago, not long after Smith and Elder first met, during which Marlene Smith and Ajamu discussed their friendship and individual and collaborative practices.

In a similar conversational form, Smith discussed how friendship, life experience and respite has informed her approaches to engaging with materiality in familial and artistic objects.
