News Feeling Still in a World Which Runs 2025 | Programme Announcement New Year & Spring 2025 In Spring 2025 our current Curatorial Fellow Seán Elder’s programme Feeling Still in a World Which Runs continues for its final season. This includes an ongoing residency with Aliaskar Abarkas and wider activities in the gallery, a publication following Kirsty Russell’s Practising Bodies (Summer 2024) and a new commission by artist Nicola Singh. Cubitt Cèilidh Sat 25 January In January, Cubitt will host a Cèilidh, a social evening and cultural celebration common in Gaelic cultures, as an informal fundraiser and celebration of the final year of our current Curatorial Fellow’s programme. This Cèilidh will take place on Robert Burn’s night, a traditional celebration of Scottish culture named after its national poet. Cubitt staff and friends will be participating in the event including refreshments, drinks, dancing and a raffle. Kilts recommended. Aliaskar Abarkas: Gallery Residency Alongside use by Cubitt’s various communities, our gallery will be in use by Aliaskar Abarkas, whose current practice sits at the intersection of alternative pedagogy, expanded choreography, and a strong focus on sound. As Aliaskar’s residence in the space continues their web page on Cubitt will become populated with audio and texts from the ongoing events taking place. Keep updated through our website and social media. Kirsty Russell: Practising Bodies (Publication Launch) Following on from Kirsty Russell’s solo exhibition Practising Bodies, we are delighted to announce that in Spring 2025 we will launch a publication by Kirsty Russell, developed with curator and researcher Elizabeth Graham, and the members of Aberdeen Healthcare Workers for Palestine, a group of Nurses and healthcare professionals with whom Kirsty was initially working with for this project and since last October have been gathering and organising to demonstrate solidarity with Palestine in the face of the ongoing genocide. A launch date will be announced in the new year with a two-part publication, co-produced with Cubitt Community Press documenting concepts around Kirsty’s practice as well details of where textile works made by the Healthcare Workers have travelled to in protests across Scotland. Nicola Singh: Sincere Seeker For the final new commission of Feeling Still in a World Which Runs, artist Nicola Singh will present an ambitious new body of sculptural, sound and performance work in Cubitt gallery. The work draws on Singh's recent period of immersive research across India, training in South Asian classical music traditions and meditative practices. Singh’s installed work will draw from transcultural notions of devotion and transcendence through experimental sound, somatics and performance. A public programme and further announcement will be made next year. Manage Cookie Preferences
